About Wake the World
Wake the World (WTW) is a non profit charitable organization that provides watersports experiences to children and teens that would not otherwise have this opportunity. Whether it's wakeboarding , wake surfing, kneeboarding, water skiing, tubing, swimming or just hanging out in a boat, we are providing a first-time chance for young people all across the country to learn and have fun with watersports in a safe and caring environment. All Wake the World events are sanctioned and insured by the World Wakeboard Association, and are made possible because of big hearted supporters that donate their time and resources. All funds that are collected are used for expenses directly related to our events; we have no paid staff and everyone is a volunteer. In addition, all WTW boat drivers have safety certifications from NASBLA; the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.
Wake the World began in 2008 with a group of 8 friends that decided to take some kids from a local children's home in North Carolina out for a day of fun on the lake. Since that time Wake the World, the largest all-volunteer organization of its type, has grown to include local events being held across the United States and Canada! Our local event, Wake the World - West Virginia, hosted its first event in 2012 on the Ohio River at the Dils Riverfront Park behind Wal-Mart in Vienna. The annual West Virginia event is held on the 4th Monday of July each year.
